Inverse Star, Borders, and Palstars

چکیده
A language L is closed if L = L. We consider an operation on closed languages, L , that is an inverse to Kleene closure. It is known that if L is closed and regular, then L −∗ is also regular. We show that the analogous result fails to hold for the contextfree languages. Along the way we find a new relationship between the unbordered words and the prime palstars of Knuth, Morris, and Pratt. We use this relationship to enumerate the prime palstars, and we prove that neither the language of all unbordered words nor the language of all prime palstars is context-free. 1 Inverse star Let L be a language such that L = L. Then, following [3], we say that L is closed. Brzozowski [2] studied the the “smallest” language M such that L = M. Definition 1. For closed languages L, define

Counting the Palstars
A palstar (after Knuth, Morris, and Pratt) is a concatenation of even-length palindromes. We show that, asymptotically, there are Dkα n k palstars of length 2n over a k-letter alphabet, where Dk and αk are positive constants with 2k−1 < αk < 2k − 1 2 . In particular, α2 . = 3.33513193.
متن کاملThe Role of Borders, Languages, and Currencies as Obstacles to Labor Market Integration
The Role of Borders, Languages, and Currencies as Obstacles to Labor Market Integration* Based on a modified Spatiotemporal Autoregressive Model (STAR), we analyze whether borders still constitute significant impediments to labor market integration in the European Union, despite the formal law of free movement of labor. Using regional data from the EU-15 countries over 21 years, we find that th...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملInverse scattering for star-shaped nonuniform lossless electrical networks
The Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) is studied as a powerful tool to detect hard or soft faults in star-shaped networks of nonuniform lossless transmission lines. Processing the FDR measurements leads to solve an inverse scattering problem for a Schrödinger operator on a star-shaped graph. Throughout this paper, we restrict ourselves to the case of minimal experimental setup corresponding ...
متن کاملReality Does Not Recognize Borders
Reality does not recognize borders. Why we should use the very general term of “reality” and not science, because the borders that we draw are pure delusions, and on the opposite side there is the reality. The laws of the universe, either the physical nature of the world which the scientist studies or metaphysics which is the territory of philosophers, it isthe same reality that rules. Today ma...
